A man recently arrested in a 2021 cold case murder returned to court on Friday.
Shawn McLaurin stands accused of fatally shooting 49-year-old Shawn Jefferson in White Plains on New Year’s Eve of 2021.
The shooting happened on North Kensico Avenue. Jefferson died at a nearby hospital, according to police.
"It's something that we are going to continue to work on until we are able to finally bring some closure for the victim's family," says Capt. Edward Robinson, with the White Plains Department of Public Safety.
After years of investigating, McLaurin was arrested earlier this week.
A White Plains Department of Public Safety news release stated, "Following an extensive, long-term investigation led…investigators uncovered substantial evidence linking Mr. McLaurin to the crime.”
McLaurin appeared in White Plains City Court Friday. Officials say the case will be moved to Westchester County Court.
The next court date was not immediately known.
