People now have some extra time to return to their cars after the meter runs out in White Plains.

The City of White Plains has extended the parking session grace period from six to 12 minutes.

City officials say parking enforcement officers will not be allowed to issue a ticket until the full 12 minutes are up.

The new policy applies to street meters, eight municipal garages and 23 surface lots, covering more than 13,000 parking spaces across the city.
