Driver accused of DWI with 5 children in car, including 2-month-old infant
A Port Chester man faces aggravated DWI charges after state police say he drove drunk with five children in his car, including a 2-month-old infant.
Troopers say they spotted a 2012 Mazda traveling south on South Main Street in Port Chester around 1:28 a.m. Oct. 31 with children unrestrained in the back seat.
Police identified the driver as Fredy A. Regalado-Carranza, 32, and said he showed signs of intoxication during the traffic stop. Field sobriety tests indicated impairment, according to police.
Five children, ranging in age from 2 months to 15 years, were inside the vehicle.
Police say Regalado-Carranza registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15% after he was taken into custody.
He was charged with five counts of aggravated DWI with a passenger younger than 16 under Leandra’s Law, along with multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
Regalado-Carranza was released to a sober third party and is due in Rye Town Court on Nov. 20. The children were also turned over to a sober third party.
