A fallen tree brought down during this weekend's storm continues to keep a busy Yonkers roadway closed as utility crews work to make repairs.

Hillcrest Avenue remains shut down between Rumsey Road and Edgecliff Terrace, affecting commuters and families traveling to several nearby schools.

Yonkers police say the roadway remained closed Tuesday morning for repairs. Officials had anticipated the closure would continue at least through the morning school commute when they issued a traffic alert Monday evening.

Drivers heading to Yonkers Middle High School are encouraged to use alternate routes, including Hemlock Road to Edgecliff Terrace, Rockland Place and Rockland Avenue, or Van Cortlandt Park Avenue to Lakeside Drive and Hillcrest Avenue. Drivers traveling to School 23 are being asked to access the area via Van Cortlandt Park Avenue.

Officials hope repairs can be completed in time to reopen the roadway for the afternoon and evening commutes.
