A teenager is in critical condition after being shot in the head early Monday morning in East Flatbush, police say.
The NYPD confirmed the 17-year-old boy was shot just after 12:30 a.m. in the courtyard of the Flatbush Gardens apartment complex near 1402 Brooklyn Ave.
He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County by EMS and is in critical condition, according to officials.
Investigators say three masked men fled the scene, heading west toward New York Avenue. One was wearing all blue and the other two were dressed in all black. Police do not believe the victim knew the suspects.
Officers recovered several shell casings scattered across the complex.
Neighbors told News 12 that gun violence in the area isn’t unusual.
"You know, these things are going to happen and there's nothing we can do about it. It's going to get worse this summer." said Shirley, a local resident.
Another woman, who asked not to be identified, said she often worries for her family's safety.
"Every summer it is like this…and that is the reason why I don’t allow my kids to play. I don’t allow them to come downstairs,” she said.
