Interest in curling is surging during the Winter Olympics, and the Ardsley Curling Club is welcoming newcomers eager to try the sport.
The club has been in Westchester County since 1932 and has about 190 to 200 members. Officials said anyone can start learning even though the sport takes time to master. Club president Amy Constantino said, “I like curling because of the strategy.”
Member Joe Sablow said, “The people are great. It’s the camaraderie. And it’s a lot of fun.”
Beginners can be playing within 15 minutes. New curlers learn how to place stones in the house and how sweeping changes the stone’s movement.
The club offers learn‑to‑curl classes with five weeks of instruction. Officials said players as young as 10 and some in their 90s have participated.
