As the calendar page flips from April to May, there will be cooler temperatures on the way. Overnight, under clear skies, the temps will settle down into the 40s and 30s, with the coldest temperatures found in our northern counties. Typically, the last frost of the season occurs in mid to late April. Mother Nature saved this frosty treat for the very last night of the month. There is a frost advisory in effect for Dutchess and eastern Ulster counties for Thursday, from midnight to 8 a.m., where temps will dip into the low 30s. Under fair skies, temperatures will rise to seasonal levels for the afternoon hours and a little extra. But by the end of the day, expect to see more clouds overhead.
Friday starts off mostly cloudy but dry. Throughout the day, the southwesterly breeze will pump up the warmth and moisture levels. It will start to feel a touch sticky (especially compared to how it has been so far this season), by the afternoon hours. There will be a threat of some passing showers and isolated thunderstorms to come around before the day is done.
Sadly, we're starting off the weekend with rain chances running a little high for Saturday. Expect on-and-off showers through the day with downpours mixed in along the way. A storm system will be pushing into the region Friday into Saturday, which is something of higher confidence in happening. It is what happens afterward that is of lower confidence. One computer model (the GFS) wants to push the system out of the region overnight Saturday into Sunday morning, leaving much of Sunday drier. But another computer model (the Euro) wants to keep the system lingering around through Sunday and possibly into mid-week next week! For now, I am leaning on the side of the GFS model and going with a mix of sun and clouds starting Sunday. But stick around for more forecast details.
