A swastika was found drawn inside a student bathroom at Rye Middle School this week.
School officials say the symbol was discovered on Tuesday and was immediately removed.
In a message to the community, officials said they remain committed to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful environment. They said the school is in the process of becoming a "No Place to Hate" campus, a designation that uses education, awareness and action to address hate and bias.
Officials said incidents like this reinforce why that work is important.
