The golf world will descend on Long Island's East End starting today for the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in Southampton.
Organizers are expecting 40,000 people each day, with around 150,000 for the entire week.
Here's everything you need to know.

The U.S. Open

The U.S. Open, organized by the United States Golf Association, is one of golf's four major annual championships.
This event is famous for being one of the hardest to win.
What makes it so unique is that both professionals and amateurs compete. Professionals automatically qualify, while over 10,000 players earn a spot through local tournaments played between April and June.

The schedule

Practice rounds begin today, June 15, through Wednesday, June 17.
The four Championship Rounds begin on Thursday, June 18, and conclude on Sunday, June 21.
Practice round tee times begin as early as 6:35 a.m. and as late as 5:30 p.m.
A full schedule can be found here.

Getting there

Expanded train service is available in both directions along the Montauk Branch utilizing the MTA's temporary train platform built at Stony Brook Southampton, adjacent to the championship grounds.
After getting off the train, fans will go through security screening and admission before crossing a pedestrian bridge.
Traffic is expected to be the worst on Sunrise Highway, Montauk Highway and along the local roads that surround the course.
Fans coming from west of the course should park in the Blue Lot at the Calverton Airfield in Riverhead and people coming from the east should park at the Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton. USGA will provide complimentary shuttles and use designated bus lanes to get fans between the lots and the course.
There is no general fan or overnight parking at Shinnecock Hills and police will enforce all local street parking rules.

Everything else

The last time Shinnecock Hills Golf Club hosted the U.S. Open was in 2018 when Brooks Koepka won the tournament.
The course is the only venue to hold U.S. Opens in three centuries (1896, 1986, 1995, 2004, 2018 and now 2026).
History could be made this weekend when Scottie Scheffler takes the course. The World's No. 1 player is looking to complete a career Grand Slam (winning the Masters, the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and the British Open in their professional careers).
The tournament will return to Shinnecock Hills in 2036.
