An elementary school student in Yonkers is being recognized for her heartfelt appreciation of the local police department.

Mariam sent a thank-you card to the Yonkers police commissioner and included a $10 bill.

The commissioner returned the money during a visit to her home this week, saying they couldn't accept the gift.

He thanked her in person and gave her some Yonkers police swag in return.
