Two women were hospitalized following a stabbing at a QuickChek gas station in Middletown early Saturday morning, according to the Middletown Police Department.

Police say officers responded to the gas station at 1 James P. Kelly Way around 4:41 a.m. and found a 23-year-old woman outside a vehicle on Route 17M bleeding from multiple stab wounds.

Officers provided medical aid and took her to the hospital in a police vehicle.

She suffered serious injuries to her torso and extremities and underwent surgery at Garnet Health Medical Center.

Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

During the investigation, officers were directed to the women's bathroom inside the convenience store, where they found a 21-year-old woman suffering from several stab wounds and holding a knife.

Officers said she became combative and was taken into custody before being transported to the hospital.

Police identified the 21-year-old as the suspect.

Investigators believe the two women knew each other and that the stabbing stemmed from a dispute inside the victim's vehicle while they were traveling together.

Both women are expected to be OK.

Police say they are not seeking any additional suspects and there is no broader threat to the community.

The investigation remains ongoing.
