As Memorial Day weekend approaches, 93-year-old Korean War veteran Edward Monroeville is reflecting on the memories that still stay with him decades later.
Monroeville says he was just 19 years old when he was drafted into the Army, leaving behind his wife, who was pregnant at the time. During his service in Korea, he experienced the fear of combat, long nights on patrol, and the close bond formed between fellow soldiers.
Now, more than 70 years later, Monroeville says Memorial Day is a time to remember the men he served beside — especially those who never made it home.
“When I got home… my wife was waiting with the baby,” he recalled. “What a feeling that was. It was unbelievable.”
