For many teens, shopping is a key part of growing up — but not everyone in the Hudson Valley can afford that experience. A nonprofit in Westchester County is working to change that.
The Sharing Shelf in Port Chester is bridging the gap with its Teen Boutique — a space designed to feel like a real retail store but stocked entirely with donated clothing and accessories.
High school students can browse racks filled with items like jeans, crop tops, pajamas and more, all at no cost. Organizers say the goal is to give teens not just clothes, but a sense of independence and confidence.
The boutique was designed with input from Drew Barrymore, helping create a stylish, welcoming environment that mirrors a traditional shopping experience.
Volunteers sort and display donations from the community, allowing teens to choose what fits their personal style — something many may not otherwise have the opportunity to do.
Organizers say the reaction from teens has been overwhelmingly positive, with many eagerly asking when they can return.
The Sharing Shelf and its Teen Boutique accept both clothing donations and financial support to continue serving local families.
