Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency for Long Island, New York City and Westchester ahead of this weekend's nor'easter storm.
"Take this storm seriously. Stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and text 333-111 for real-time updates," Hochul says.
She says to expect dangerous coastal flooding, strong winds and potential power outages through the weekend.
Nor’easter forces Hudson Valley communities to cancel popular weekend events

Municipalities and organizations across the Hudson Valley are canceling events ahead of a powerful nor’easter expected to impact the region through the weekend.
Here are some of the events that have been cancelled or postponed:
- Sleepy Hollow: The Village of Sleepy Hollow and the Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber have canceled the Sleepy Hollow Oktoberfest scheduled for Sept. 26 and the Sleepy Hollow Street Fair scheduled for Sept. 27 due to forecasted severe weather. People will be notified if the events are rescheduled.
- Yonkers: The McLean Avenue Fall Festival has been postponed due to the weekend weather forecast. A new date will be announced. Per Yonkers OEM, City of Yonkers, Yonkers Police Department and Yonkers Fire Department.
- Irvington: Rocktoberfest on Saturday has been canceled. Organizers said wind and safety concerns for inflatables, tents, musicians and sound technicians forced the decision. A makeup date may be explored.
- Croton-on-Hudson: Oktoberfest has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 3, due to forecasted foul weather. The Rotary Club of Croton-on-Hudson has cancelled the car show scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Croton-Harmon Train Station. It will not be rescheduled.
- Maria Regina High School: The Color Run has been postponed until further notice due to inclement weather and strong winds expected Saturday morning from the nor'easter. Registrations will carry over.
- Ardsley: The Latino Heritage Month event has been rescheduled to Saturday, Oct. 3, due to weather and forecasted high winds.
- Hastings-on-Hudson: The Fall Village-Wide Tag Sale has been rescheduled to Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Chappaqua: The Chappaqua Children's Brook Festival that was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26 has been canceled out of concern for the safety of attendees.
- Lakeland Central School District: All games, activities, and building operations will be canceled/closed beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 and all day Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026.
- Other cancellations: Events also canceled in Somers, Eastchester, New Rochelle, Hilltop Hanover Farm and Mamaroneck.
MTA prepares to maintain safe, reliable service ahead of nor’easter

New York City travel systems will focus on maintaining safety and reliability throughout the nor’easter this weekend.
MTA CEO Janno Lieber says all agencies will have teams evaluate weather issues in real-time.
Wind is the biggest concern for the storm, especially after downed powerlines disrupted LIRR service on Wednesday.
PSEG and LIPA leadership will be diligent and address any issues as they arise.
Lieber says MTA crews have been deployed at strategic locations so they can respond quickly and efficiently.
Empty tractor trailers and tandem trucks will also be banned from MTA bridges and tunnels starting at midnight.
Lieber also said the city’s bus command center is fully staffed throughout the weekend. Reroute plans will allow the system to continue running despite possible flooding.
