A malfunctioning e-scooter charger caused a house fire in Peekskill over the weekend, according to firefighters.
The fire broke out shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of Dyckman Street.
The Peekskill Fire Department says crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the house.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within minutes.
Crews disassembled the e-scooter and safely removed the battery after the flames were knocked down.
The battery was placed in a specialized container and transported to a hazardous materials recovery facility for disposal.
No injuries were reported.
