The manhunt for a suspect wanted in connection with a homicide investigation in Orange County has ended, New York State Police announced Sunday morning.

Thomas David Ryan was taken into custody just after midnight Sunday in the Gilboa area of Schoharie County. Police say multiple tips helped them locate Ryan. He was hospitalized for injuries suffered prior to his arrest.

Ryan was wanted in connection with the death of his father, 70-year-old Robert Ryan, whose body was found inside his Greenville home after a fire broke out Thursday evening.

State police previously said surveillance footage from a neighboring home showed the 32-year-old carrying a garbage can filled with chopped wood toward the house and running from the area shortly before the fire started.

As the search intensified, state police assigned additional patrol units to Greenville and surrounding communities, canvassed neighborhoods and asked residents and businesses to review surveillance footage from Thursday night.

Ryan left the area in his father's 2016 Toyota Prius, according to police.

Authorities say they received a tip Saturday evening that stated the Prius was spotted in a parking lot at 199 State Route 990V in Gilboa. Officers confirmed the car was in fact the one they were searching for and deployed additional law enforcement resources to the area to conduct a coordinated search.

According to police, a second tip led officers to Ryan. NYS Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT) safely took him into custody.

He was treated for his prior injuries at the scene before he was transported to the hospital where he is expected to recover, authorities say.

Ryan was still in state police custody as of Sunday afternoon and will be officially charged and arraigned when his health status improves.

Robert Ryan's cause of death remains unknown as of Sunday afternoon.
