A staff member at New Horizons Resources in the Town of Pleasant Valley is accused of striking a person in his care, according to New York State Police.

Police arrested 51-year-old Torano Elting, of Poughkeepsie, on Friday, one day after the alleged incident.

New Horizons Resources works with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, according to its website.

Police say Elting allegedly hit a person he was caring for during a day program inside the facility, located at 123 West Road.

Elting is charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, according to investigators.

He was issued an appearance ticket and is expected in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court on Oct. 27.
