A registered sex offender from Poughkeepsie faces new federal charges after authorities say he tried to arrange a sexual meeting with someone he believed was a minor—and planned to record it.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Louis K. West III was taken into custody Friday.
Federal prosecutors said West communicated with an individual he thought was a 14‑year‑old girl. The person was actually an undercover officer.
According to investigators, West arrived with items described as a hidden camera disguised as an alarm clock and a pair of video‑recording glasses. FBI agents arrested him at the scene.
Prosecutors said he faces a maximum sentence of 35 years to life in prison.
