A construction worker died after falling from a Taconic State Parkway overpass onto the Saw Mill River Parkway in Hawthorne.
Westchester County police say the incident happened around 10:10 p.m. Tuesday near the Exit 26 interchange. Authorities say the man fell from the Taconic overpass onto the southbound lanes of the Saw Mill River Parkway.
Multiple county police units and EMS crews responded to the scene. Police say the man suffered cardiac arrest. Emergency responders performed CPR, but he did not survive.
Investigators say the victim was a contractor working on a New York State Department of Transportation construction project in the area.
The man's identity has not been released pending notification of family. Officials say he was a man in his 30s from New York City.
The incident shut down portions of the Saw Mill River Parkway and the northbound ramp to the Taconic Parkway. Traffic was diverted to the southbound Sprain Brook Parkway. County police say the parkway was closed in both directions until about 3:30 a.m. before reopening.
The investigation remains ongoing.
