A suspicious package scare briefly shut down part of the Westchester County Courthouse Wednesday afternoon after a letter containing an unknown substance was reported to authorities.
According to Westchester County Police, New York State Court officers requested assistance from the Hazardous Devices Unit at around noon after receiving the letter through the mail.
Investigators examined the substance and determined it was not hazardous. Officials believe the material may have been adhesive or correction fluid that flaked off the envelope.
The scene was cleared shortly before 1:30 p.m., and no threats or hazardous materials were found, police said.
