A multi-million dollar federal lawsuit against the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has been dismissed.

George Taranto, of Brewster, filed the lawsuit alleging he was beaten by several officers during a 2019 incident at his home.

He died a year later.

His family added a wrongful death claim. However, a judge ruled deputies had probable cause to arrest him, citing enough evidence for charges including resisting arrest and obstruction.

News 12 is waiting to hear back from county officials and the family’s attorney for comment.
