A lawsuit filed by the mother of a Mount Vernon cheerleader who survived a stabbing by a rival cheerleader has been discontinued.
The suit claimed the school district ignored prior violent incidents involving the girls.
The attack happened four years ago after a parade celebrating the boys basketball team’s state championship.

Mainece Simpson was seriously hurt in the April 2022 attack.
A rival cheerleader, who was 15 at the time, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 3 to 9 years in a state juvenile facility.
Court records show the lawsuit was discontinued and cannot be filed again.
